Day 10: Friday: The Hotel Wilson and a Day of Rest in Dijon

By the end of the drive on Thursday, we had shaken off the hustle of Paris and were feeling quite at home with the slower pace outside of the capital. Dijon is the historical capital of the province of Burgundy (Bourgogne), with a population of about 160,000 within the city limits.

We stayed at the Hotel Wilson, a lovely 17th-century post house, now a comfortable inn. It is located on the Place Wilson, which sports a central fountain. Both the place and hotel are named for Woodrow Wilson, former president of the United States.

We strolled the streets surrounding the hotel and enjoyed the historic architecture ...

... enticing courtyards ...

 ... colorful shops ...

... a stand to rent bicycles ...

,,, and a grapevine in front of a restaurant near the hotel.

We enjoyed the Italian food at the Pizzeria Sommatino, located in the street behind the hotel. It is across from the courtyard entrance to the hotel, which is available for guest parking.

We thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance of the hotel and spent a good bit of Friday relaxing, recharging our batteries for the weekend to come.

Our room was small, yet quaint and comfortable.

Here's a close up of the beam in the corner.

The next morning, Saturday, we left for Cluny and our meeting with Bernard and Fabienne.
